Can you saw?

Join us on Thursday night for Technique Thursday and you can learn to do a pierced pendant and really work that jewelers saw. You'll leave with a sweet little copper charm and a better knowledge of how to make that saw do what you want.

You may even learn how NOT to break blades!

See you Thursday, 6:30-8:30.

Customer Work - Skull and Wire Earrings

We have a contest going on over on our Facebook page. We've invited customers to share their favorite Ornamentea item on their facebook wall and I love seeing what folks like and why. The fans are excited to have a chance to win $10 gift certificates, I like the fact that I can peek into our customers studios.

I like seeing what they make with the items they like.

These earrings are by Cindy Mays of Sweet Southern Charmer. She shared the skull beads (which I also like a lot!) but I really liked her super-wrappy wire work on these earrings. That kind of wire wrappy-wrap-wrap stuff is harder to do that you might imagine and almost impossible to teach to people. You just have to understand the way the wire is going to look and relax about it lining up just exactly. Cindy's work is sold at the Old Wilmington City Market among other places...check it out.

The Facebook contest ends on the 8th.

Garden Jewelry

Vintage chandelier crystals hanging from our bamboo bean trellis.
I used Wildfire to hang them, just looped it over the bamboo.

They are very pretty in the sun and surprisingly sparkly in the dim light of evening.

How To Make Waterproof Paper Pennants Using Decopatch Papers

Are you making pennants for an outdoor party or event? Do you just want your paper pennants to last a bit longer than a day or two?

We like mixing fade-resistant Decopatch papers to create a set of fun pennants that will last for ages.

Making custom pennants is a great way to carry through a theme or decorative color scheme in your party, but these pennants can also be hung around a bedroom for a bit of whimsy. Making pennants is simple, you'll just need a few tools and some Decopatch papers and varnish.

You'll need: an Ex-acto knife or other paper cutter, a cutting mat, a ruler or straight edge and some plastic to work on when you get out the varnish.

For all the details, watch our quick how-to video shot in the dawn of You-Tube (back in 2011!)
You can watch the video of how to make these paper pennants below, but please be nice and don't tell us the picture is blurry. That was a first-generation iPhone.

Decopatch papers in a pretty mix for this project are right here.
The waterproof varnish can be found here.

Don't forget to try one of the Decopatch brushes, they really do make the project go faster!

Join the Patriotic Craft linky party at Craft Test Dummies

Are you already thinking about Patriotic crafts for July 4th? It's not too early...the crafty folks over at Craft Test Dummies (one of our favorite sites here at the office!) have started a link party to celebrate Patriotic Crafts.

You can join in...just go read the instructions on their site right here.

I can't join the party (we are a 'selling site' and so prohibited) but I'll share some red-white-and-blue jewelry ideas that go a bit beyond the safety pin flags you made in 3rd grade all month.

What would I do with the items pictured here?

I'd string those beads up in a chunky necklace on red or blue leather cording and cut out some of my favorite states from the map and make charms using bezels and ecopoxycraftresin
